Activities

The main goal of the Health Emergency Situations Centre of the Ministry of Health (HESC) - to implement strategy (policy) of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania in the field of health emergency and to participate in establishment and development of National crises and emergencies management system.

HESC coordinates and provides management of National Health System preparedness and activities during disasters, catastrophes, natural calamities and other emergencies.

Basic functions of the HESC consists of:

• Coordination of preparedness and activities of National Health System institutions in case of emergency.

• Organization of daily activities of Emergency Management Center of Ministry of Health.

• Preparation of legislatives and methodical recommendations for health care institutions concerning preparedness in case of emergencies.

• National Health Care System emergency contact point 24 /7.

• National WHO International Health Regulations Focal Point 24 /7.

• Organization of seminars, conferences, exercises, trainings.

• State Medical Reserve administration, planning and regulation.

• Monitoring and Information transfer on poisonings.

• Accumulation, analysis of information on health emergencies, consequences of them and use of the measures on purpose to reduce or to liquidate the consequences.
